Finger expansion joints B2P

B2P finger expansion joints are intended to be used in bridges of every category of the traffic (including KR7 according to Polish specification) and every type of bridge structures (steel, composite, reinforced and prestressed). They provide long-lasting durability even being subjected to the most intense traffic exploitation. The construction is quite simple which is an advantage both from mechanical and technical point of view. Installation is simple as each expansion joint consist of segments not longer than 1 meter which makes handling quite easy. This segmental construction is also very beneficial during replacement of old expansion joints as there is no need for closure of the entire roadway. The finger expansion joints are used on expressways and motorways where the dynamic loads are the highest and in the areas when the emission of noise should be reduced. It is worth noting that the finger expansion joints features the best acoustic performance – among the types of expansion joints intended for large movements they have the lowest level of emission of noise.


B2P finger expansion joint consists of the steel plates, which are firmly installed on both sides of the expansion gap.  Both plates are cut into finger-like shape, which provides alternating movement of opposite cantilevers.  This solution provides smooth transition over the expansion gap. The steel plates are installed in the deck and in the abutment by prestressed threaded rods. Due to its simple construction the expansion joints might be delivered to the Client by simple means of transport on the pallets and afterwards installed with no special need to use cranes.

The dewatering of the expansion joint is provided by special pipe which is connected to the gutter (membrane). The pipe is connected to the dewatering system of the bridge.



The B2P finger expansion joints are recommended to be used in bridges, where the deck operates within movements up to 800 mm. The finger expansion joints are able to compensate the range of movements from ±80  to ±400 mm

The expansion joints are tested for dynamic resistance which proves the durability while being subjected to the recurring loads. The expansion joints manufactured by B2 fulfill the requirements of Road and Bridge Research Institute, which are more severe that those stated in ETAG 032 (parts 4, 6 and 8). The durability of B2 expansion joints might be assumed for 50 years. Therefore they meet the Polish requirement for ability to service for at least 20 years.

Finger expansion joints manufactured by B2 have the following documents issued: Certificate of Constancy of Performance No. 052 – UWB – 087 and National Technical Assessment no. IBDiM-KOT-2021/0726 issued by Road and Bridge Research Institute.

According to Polish regulation, these construction products are marked with a polish construction mark (B) and the manufacturer issues National Declaration of Performance which are delivered to the customer at the latest with the delivery.
